In 1923, in order to keep the famed Dr. Ellis Kackley from moving to Lava Hot Springs, Caribou County commissioners agreed to build a “real” hospital in Soda Springs. That facility, called Caribou County Hospital, was located adjacent to the court house (where US Bank currently is). In 1969, it was replaced with a 25-bed hospital/30 bed nursing home along Alexander Reservoir, which we know today as Caribou Medical Center.
Caribou Medical Center (CMC) is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in Soda Springs, Idaho, the county seat of Caribou County. Our facility serves Caribou County and its surrounding communities and neighboring counties. We employ over 200 people and have a total operating budget of $35,200,000. CMC serves as the only major medical facility for the residents of Caribou County. The facility is 83,963 square feet and provides 24/7 ER services, family practice services, women’s health services, and an ever-growing list of specialties and surgeries.
